Small Press Pittsburgh started as this wiki directory for literary Pittsburgh in 2008. Now we are in the process of expanding to serve the Pittsburgh literary scene with more resources. We opened a pop up bookstore in early July 2013, and added Small Press Roulette in late July 2013.

This directory site aims to showcase all the small press activity in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, so that the publishers and their output will be easy to find (and contextualize) for readers, book buyers, researchers, collections development librarians, and catalogers of the small press.

The site also aims to provide a handy resource to writers or publishers (or audiences) seeking to find or to book Pittsburgh readings, and to people coming to Pittsburgh for , small press festivals like the PIX Indy Comics Expo, the Pittsburgh Zine Fair, or for Library Tourism or Bookstore Tourism.

The term small press is related to the terms underground press, alternative press, independent press, indie publishing, free press, zines, little magazines, and micro press. It most often refers to presses that are independent of corporate influence, or presses whose publishing is driven by content rather than profit. The small press represents the right of free speech put into practice.
